After breakfast we transfer to Anuradhapura. Now a UNESCO World Heritage Site for its well preserved ruins of ancient Sri Lankan civilisation, it is one of the ancient capitals of Sri Lanka and dates back to the 5th century BC. We spend the day walking around the ruins of the ancient city and also check out the oldest living human-planted tree in the world (249BC), the Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi which is said to be part of Sri Maha Bodhi under which Lord Buddha attained enlightenment.

Today we transfer to Sigiriya to climb the ancient rock fortress and to walk amongst some of the oldest landscaped gardens in the world. This is UNESCO heritage sight is a must see on a visit to Sri Lanka. We then head to Nalanda to spend the night.

We take a short transfer today to our next destination which is in the heart of the Sri Lankan spice belt. Today we start our walk through a spice garden then heading to Nalanda Gedige, an ancient Hindu Temple. We then continue our walk around the Bowatenna resevoir with a visit to a small fishing village.

Today we climb the nearby Arangala Peak, supposed to be the center point of Sri Lanka. From it’s top we can view the mighty Knuckles range in the distance and two reservoirs on either side.

Today we transfer to the tiny town of Pallegama to begin our hike to Meemure. Our hike takes us through the Knuckes Range and around Lakegal,  the place where King Ravana would take off in his historical aeroplane according to popular legend. Our destination for the night is a small campsite run by a local farmer who knows all the folklore of the surrounding area.

Today we transfer to Kandy for a rest day. In the evening we can visit the sacred Temple of the Tooth and attend a local culture show. Kandy is a city that sleeps, that’s why our food walk start at 6PM. We start at the iconic Royal Bar. Try out the local Arrack and bites to set the tone before heading out for some gluttony. Egg rotis, fresh hoppers and the best Kothu are up for grabs. Our charismatic host will regale you with stories about Kandy while you indulge in the many food options on the walk.
